Amazon to start drone deliveries in California, Texas

US e-commerce and tech giant Amazon announced on Friday that it will soon start deliveries by drone in the states of California and Texas.

The company announced last month that it will offer drone deliveries to customers living in Lockeford, California, and the service will now be extended to College Station, Texas.

The company said it partnered with Texas Aamp;M University in College Station, which will be “at the forefront of the development of drone delivery technology,” College Station Mayor Karl Mooney said in a statement.

Amazon said its drones are capable of delivering packages up to five pounds (2.27 kilograms) in less than an hour.

They can fly at a maximum speed of 50 miles per hour (80.5 kilometers) and a maximum altitude of 400 feet (122 meters).
